Robotics talents play an important role in Malaysia’s national agenda. According to Taylor’s Deputy Vice Chancellor and Chief Academic Officer Professor, Dr Pradeep Nair, IR4.0 technologies are transforming the way we do things but the pandemic has highlighted how unprepared we are for this shift.
To answer this global demand, Taylor’s University is introducing a brand new programme — the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Robotic Design and Development. It is developed with the aim of producing “IR4.0 compliant graduates to drive the current market and spearhead the revolution internationally.”
This 3-year programme, which will be offered starting from March 2021, will see students learning from certified professionals including engineers and technologists from leading companies. This will give students the potential opportunity to seek employment in top-tier organisations.
The programme has been endorsed by the Malaysian Robotic and Automation Society (MyRAS). MyRAS’ President, Dr Ishkandar Baharin, was quoted as saying, “Currently, we are just at the start of this technology adoption – there are more work to be done, especially in talent development.”
Additionally, students can expect to reap great benefits from Taylor’s partnership with Robopreneur Sdn. Bhd, a Malaysia-based robotics company with strong focus on R&D. Robopreneur’s Founder, Dr Hanafiah Yussof, has expressed hope that the collaboration will not only benefit the students, but also elevate the company towards becoming the nation’s robotics leader.
In conjunction with the event, Taylor’s has also announced their first nationwide Sumo Robot Open Competition. Open to all pre-university and university students, the competition, set for August 2021, will see students competing against each other in sumo robot, a robotic equivalent of sumo-wrestling. Registration for the competition is open from 4 February 2021 to 3 March 2021.
The Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Robotic Design and Development will have two intakes every year, one in March and one in August. You can learn more about the programme here.
