Physiotherapy is about creating, sustaining and restoring body movement and function.

As one of the frontline healthcare professions, Physiotherapy sets out to help patients maximise their quality of life and carry out everyday tasks. This field plays a pivotal role in rehabilitating those who were injured in sports or accidents, suffers limited movement due to illnesses or are born with movement disabilities.

Taking a Degree in Physiotherapy will help you build a solid repertoire of specialised knowledge and skills so that you can diagnose and recommend the right treatments without needing much supervision. You’ll be trained to utilise various physiotherapy equipment and tools as well.

To pursue a Degree in Physiotherapy, the typical entry requirements are:

• A-Level: Minimum 2Ds in TWO of the following subjects (Biology, Physics or Mathematics, Chemistry); or
• STPM: Minimum 2C+s in TWO of the following subjects (Biology, Physics or Mathematics, Chemistry); or
• Australian Matriculation: Minimum of ATAR 55.0 including TWO of the following subjects (Biology, Physics or Mathematics, Chemistry); or
• Canadian Pre-University: Average of 55% including TWO of the following subjects (Biology, Physics or Mathematics, Chemistry); or
• Foundation in Science: Minimum CGPA of 2.33 including TWO of the following subjects (Biology, Physics or Mathematics, Chemistry); or
• Diploma in Physiotherapy: Minimum CGPA of 2.75

You may also need at least 5 credits at SPM or equivalent, where 3 credits must include these following subjects: Biology, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and English. On top of that, you will need to obtain at least a Band 3 in MUET Band 3 or band score of 5.5 in IELTS as well.

That being said, the entry requirements can still vary depending on the university, so make sure to do your research!

To pursue a Degree in Physiotherapy, you will need to have an SPM qualification or an equivalent qualification AND a Pre-U qualification. Needless to say, you must also meet the minimum entry requirements set by the university.

A Degree in Physiotherapy is usually 4 years long.

Upon completing a Degree in Physiotherapy, you will have several options:

• Enter the workforce immediately; or
• Pursue postgraduate studies in the relevant fields

Once you complete a Degree in Physiotherapy, you can consider the following job options:

• Physiotherapist
• Clinical Therapist
• Physiotherapy Specialist
• Physical Therapy Specialist

Different students may have different preferences when it comes to choosing the right university. Here are some questions to consider when making a decision.

• Is the institution’s Physiotherapy course accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA)?
• Do you understand the fees of the course, and are the costs affordable to you?
• Are you comfortable with the location of the university?
• Have you visited the campus, and do you like the campus environment and facilities?
• What support services does the institution have to help you in and beyond university?
