How much do we, as Malaysians, love to read these days? Do you even recall how many books you finished reading in the past one year?
Based on the Malaysian National Literacy Survey, Malaysians read an average of only two books a year. Yes that's right – two. It's an alarming statistic, given that the average for Americans are 15 books per year.
In conjunction with World Book Day that's held on 23 April each year, here are some famous and influential individuals who are avid readers. Hopefully, this will motivate you to pick up the habit of reading more books, instead of defaulting to your smartphone and surfing Facebook (*cliche pun).
The benefits that stem from reading are bountiful! In addition to setting you up for success, avid readers are also scientifically proven to be better lovers (all the more reason to pick up a book, eh guys?).
To quote another President of the United States, Harry Truman:-
Not all readers are leaders, but all leaders are readers.
And with that, we wish you a very nerdy World Book Day!
