Well, here’s some good news for you!

The British Council’s IELTS Prize is back again this year for all students planning to study in the UK. Applicants stand a chance to win a regional prize or a local prize, with a whopping £40,000 in first-year tuition fees as the regional grand prize and £6,000 as the top local prize.

The IELTS Prize is open to students in any discipline, be it undergraduate or postgraduate. All you need to do is to take the IELTS test with the British Council, apply for a course in a UK university and submit a personal statement together with an online application.

What you need to know

The British Council IELTS Prize 2019/2020 is eligible for students with the following criteria:

  • Permanent resident from countries in the East Asia region (includes Malaysia)
  • Begin undergraduate or postgraduate studies in 2020/2021 academic year
  • Attend a higher educational institution that accepts IELTS as part of its admission requirements
  • Register for an IELTS test with the British Council on, or after, 1 April 2019 and be able to produce a valid IELTS score as part of the application
  • Have a minimum IELTS band score of 6 in each of the four test components
  • Be able to provide an acceptance letter from a UK institution by 2 July 2020

How to apply

Ready to submit your application? Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Register for an IELTS test at a British Council authorised centre and obtain a valid score
  2. Complete the application form and upload the required documents by 6pm Malaysia time on 30 April 2020
  3. Submit a 500-word personal statement together with the online application
  4. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted for an interview on May 2020
