Also known as the Pearl of the Orient, Penang has become a popular holiday destination for both tourists and locals alike. It’s definitely the go-to place if you’re craving delectable street food such as mouthwatering charcoal-fired char kway teow, rojak pasembur, assam laksa and cendol. With average meals ranging from RM5 a plate, this is the perfect place to go on a memorable gastronomic adventure — without going broke.

Aside from the food, Penang is also famous for its Instagram-worthy street art consisting of beautifully drawn wall murals that seemingly come to life the instant you pose next to them.

However, if beaches are more your thing, visit Batu Ferringhi or Tanjung Bungah. Instead of paying for pricey water sports when you’re there, opt for relaxing on the beach with a good book in hand. When travelling to Fraser’s Hill, make a stop at Kuala Kubu Bahru to take in the scenic surroundings before heading to the Sungai Chilling waterfall and fish sanctuary to ‘chill.’ Then, make a trip to the strawberry farm for some juicy eats.

#4. Langkawi

Never been to Sabah? You’re missing out on the chance to immerse yourself in one of Malaysia’s most naturally beautiful places.

More than half of Sabah consists of lush green forests, which are home to exotic flora and fauna. There are also a number of wildlife sanctuaries there that were developed to promote ecotourism while protecting animals like orangutans, Sumatran rhinos, pangolins and sun bears.
